China has kicked off a long-awaited overhaul of the world's largest telecoms industry, orchestrating a series of leadership changes and directing the parent of China Mobile to take over fixed-line peer Railcom while absorbing executives from rivals.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Finance had jointly confirmed the issuing of three 3G licenses after the completion of the telecom industry reorganization.
Chinese officials has also confirmed to merge Netcom and Unicom while China Telecom will be taking over China Unicom's code-division multiple access (CDMA) network creating 2 new full-service providers to compete directly with China Mobile.
