AdMob : iPhone and Android up but Symbian big time loser

In the same time period, Android grew from 2% to 24%.

Symbian is the big loser; in February 2009 it accounted for 43% of AdMob's smartphone requests, but now it only takes 18%.

More generally, smartphones accounted for 48% of AdMob's worldwide traffic last month, up from 35% in February last year.

AdMob is getting plenty of ad requests from mobile internet devices though, including iPod touch, PSP and DSi. This category now accounts for 17% of the company's traffic.

Mobile Phone eating up everybody

Study shows that phone is eating fixed lines, MP3 players, cameras and calculators. Phone comparison website Rightmobilephone interviewed 1,054 mobile phone owners. It found 68 per cent of the respondents owned an MP3 player of some description, but of those, over half said they now used their mobile phone more for personal audio.

42% of the respondents did not own a digital camera and when Rightmobilephone asked them why, 79% said it was down to the fact they could use the camera on their mobile to take pictures. 2 in 3 said that the minimum standard of integrated camera they look for would be 5 megapixels or more.

91 per cent said they don’t own a traditional calculator, with four in five explaining it was because they used the calculator on their phone instead.

While 64 per cent had a landline, 92 per cent said they were more likely to use their mobile to make calls.

One in five of the respondents said that they only had a fixed line because it came with their entertainment bundle.

Only 13 per cent own a calendar, but over two thirds, 67 per cent, said they used their mobile handset to log important dates and appointments.

Finally, 1 in 4 people said they regularly use a map application on their mobile, such as Google maps, to navigate or find their way.

I m sure many of you are no longer carrying multiple devices and most of you are doubling your phones as camera, video cam, MP3 player, video player, calculator, internet browsing, etc. And one thing for certain, mobile phone is going to continue to eat up many other devices in the nearest future.

2014 - China will have 957 million mobile internet user

eMarketer has published its latest report on mobile trends in the so-called BRIC countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China. The figures are mind boggling. The report claims that by 2014, there will be more than 200 million mobile subscribers in both Brazil and Russia, 853 million subscribers in India, and 1.3 billion subscribers in China, of whom 957 million will be mobile Internet users.

"Staggering as it may be to conceptualize, there will be more mobile Internet users in China in 2010 than the entire population of the US," writes report author Noah Elkin.

The report predicts that while these Chinese users won't pay as much for mobile content, they could be a big base for the mobile industry to make money from ads. In fact, Elkin predicts that China will generate $223.2 million of mobile advertising spending this year, rising to $699.9 million in 2012.

Target Ads to Audience by scanning their faces

A billboard that can identify the age and gender of passers-by, then offer custom advertising according to their demographic, is already up and running in Japan. NEC Japan has been testing the digital billboard technology in major shopping centers over the past year. The American arm of NEC is preparing to bring them to the U.S. this year.

The people watching billboards have had mixed reactions. Many allude to a scene in the film, Minority Report in which Tom Cruise’s character is scanned by ad generating billboards as he walks through a futuristic mall, pretty amazing isnt it....
