2 billion of text messages are expected to be sent everyday during Spring Festival

More than 17 billion text messages are expected to be sent during Spring Festival, a possible new record, according to the Ministry of Information Industry (MII). The projection means a 12-percent rise from the 15.2 billion of last Spring Festival. Thats more than 2 billion of text messages a day! Its a rainfall for the Chinese Operators who will make about RMB 1.7 billion based on a RMB 0.10 per message.

MII statistics showed the Chinese cell phone users have sent 592.1 billion text messages last year, with a daily volume of more than 1.6 billion. Calculated at the lowest cost of RMB 0.10 per message, the service has generated a daily revenue of RMB 160 million (22.2 million U.S. dollars) for the Chinese operators. Thats close to RMB 60 billion of revenue on text messages alone! Don't expect this figure to stop growing as there is an average of 8 million subscribers registering in China every month. Mind boggling ain't it?
