China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its April 2009 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:Telecom revenues were RMB 71.1 billion (USD 10.4 billion), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 273.5 billion (USD 40.0 billion), up 2.0% over the same 4-month period of 2008.
Mobile subscribers grew by 8.5 million in April to over 678.8 million. A total of nearly 255 billion SMS messages were sent during the first four months of 2009, an 11.4% increase YoY.
